Apt hunting in NYC

(Iomoi custom stationery)
So I'm excited to say that my lease is up soon and it's time to find a new place! I love moving, and in fact rarely stayed in the same home for more than two years while growing up. It's such a great opportunity to explore new neighborhoods, as well as to reassess what you own and edit it down to your absolute favorite pieces. (Especially in NYC apts, which are teeny tiny!) Below are some inspiration pieces for my dream apartment ;)
(Left to right: Tory Burch orange lacquer box, Victoria Hagan for Target Coindot Mirror, Global Table Faux Snakeskin Tray, basic cheapo white twill drapes with greek key trim sewn on, Jacqui Coffee Table it's a bit pricey so I'll be on the lookout for a flea market version, Shades of Light Moravian Star Ceiling Light, Ikea Docksta dining table, Shades of Light Black Zebra Cowhide Rug (I'd probably go for Jonathan Adler's wool version), Ikea Egeby rug.)

(Photo: Justin Bernhaut)
Giving a rental apartment some charm is no easy task, so I love how designer Ashley Whittaker made the most of her small space. A few coats of a high-gloss black paint on her kitchen cupboards instantly makes them chic, as do the custom light fixtures, wallpaper and appropriately scaled rugs.
This is also such a charming idea! Many prewar apartments in the city have unusable fireplaces, so I was excited to see this display idea in the December 2007 issue of Domino.

Blogging soul mate- I feel the exact same way about your blog! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your blog. In fact, I want every single item you listed above for your dream apartment. I actually bought the snakeskin tray from Global Table a few weeks ago and I LOVE it! You NEED to get it! Also, how jealous am I that you got to work at Domino? That is seriously my dream job! I cannot wait to see your line of organic bedding and fabrics. I bet it will be FABULOUS!

Shoot! I wish I had seen these ideas when I was suffering over what to do with the fireplace in my office. I finally put a vase with dried hydrangeas in it. Pix on my blog... Look in Sept.

Dear M.A. Belle,

I saw Jonathan Adler's wool zebra rug in a magazine recently and was determined to get a gray/white version of it. i don't know... I am not sure if the brown/white one would work with my bed (http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=1012&f=1480) and a room full of white and mirroed furniture.... what do you think???

Your confused friend,
Chloe :P

Chloe,
I love that you're thinking about getting the Jonathan Adler rug! It's so cute, plus it's timeless. I definitely think the black and white one would work better than the brown version since your room is pretty neutral right now (it would be nice to give it a little kick!) but both would certainly work. JA also offers custom colors for his rugs, so you could come up with your own combo and have one made! Hope that helps ;)
MA.

Thanks, MA, for answering my question. You are definitely more helpful than Dear Eve, haha! :P

Actually, do you know if I could SEE the JA rug anywhere in the city? I want to touch it before shedding out 900 bucks...

Muchas gracias

No prob ;) Are you still in Boston or are you back in NY? If so, there's a store in Soho and one closer to you on 83rd and Madison, but I would call first since the Soho store often has more rugs than the uptown one. If you're in Boston...I'll do some searching to see if anybody carries it there! I'm sort of surprised he doesn't have a store there yet. Xo MA. (thanks for reading;)

Mabelle,

Love this blog.

I have a site that I would like to recommend. It seems that you don't have a place to send you an email on the page. Or am I missing it?

Thanks and good luck with the fabric!

best,

Jil
