Serge Leblon {is a genius}

While doing some research for photography styles for Rubie Green, I stumbled across Serge Leblon's portfolio (thanks to Style Bubble and Absolutely Beautiful Things) and have been drooling ever since! Like many of you, I'm a huge fan of his ad campaign for Kate Spade, and I love the overall mysterious feel that his photos can have. Here are some of my favorites.

Rubie Green Update

First of all, I would just like to say THANK YOU to all of you wonderful readers. I am continually blown away by the thoughtful comments you leave, as well as the encouraging feedback. It's so exciting to be able to share my ideas with fellow design lovers like you, and I feel incredibly lucky to have your support.

On Monday I received some more Rubie Green strike-offs that I'm thrilled to share with you! The image quality is once again terrible, but you'll get the point ;) (Click on the image below to see it a bit larger.) At this point, I will be able to order yardage of these prints for sampling and also to shoot my website! I'm thinking upholstered headboards, chairs, ottomans, all the fun stuff ;) We're still scheduled to launch the collection, as well as the newly updated e-commerce website in April so stay tuned! As for pricing, due to the high costs associated with organic cotton, eco-friendly procedures and printing in the United Sates, the upholstery fabrics will cost $90/yard. As a Domino special, for the first month that we sell our Tillinghast print (yellow and white print featured in Domino, March 2008) we will charge only $55, as listed in the magazine. Please let me know if you guys have any questions or ideas, and thanks again :)

{Sneak Preview} Rubie Green

So you guys have probably noticed that I haven't been on top of my blogging for the past few months, and I figured it's time to fill you in! I'm proud and excited (and terrified!) to announce that I've fulfilled my lifelong dream and started a company! Named after a fictitious muse, Rubie Green is an eco-friendly line of upholstery fabrics and bedding scheduled to launch in April (fabrics) and late summer 2008 (bedding). The upholstery fabrics are made from 100% organic cotton-canvas that is bleached using peroxide instead of bleach, printed with water-based inks, and finished with heat and pressure instead of chemicals. Our mission is to bring style to the eco-interiors market, and offer classic designs that are relevant and timeless. The print above is called "Marilyn," and is named after my grandma :)

I'm completely blown away to also announce that Rubie Green has its first media mention in the current March issue of Domino! We are listed as having an organic fabric similar to the yellow trellis print shown above. Our version is called "Tillinghast," and will be available to order in April 2008 via our website (which will be going through DRASTIC changes in the next few months, so please stay tuned!)

As for now, I have approved strike-offs of three prints and I'm in LOVE with them :) I hope you like them too! The photo is terrible (don't worry- we're hiring professional photographers very soon!) but I'm too excited not to share it with you now.

Hopefully I will have more exciting Rubie Green news to share with you all in the coming weeks :)

Vintage portraits at Fishs Eddy

After seeing Anna's recent portrait postings at Absolutely Beautiful Things, I thought I'd share with you some sneaky iPhone pics of Fishs Eddy! This little dinnerware/china shop near Union Square is jam packed with nostalgic pieces and vintage goodies. The portraits are everywhere (check out the gallery wall below!) but unfortunately are not for sale...

Oversized Florals & Granny Chic

2004 catalog

Nobody understands these things quite like Cath Kidston. Her nostalgic florals are sophisticated yet non-pretentious, and vintage yet somehow modern. The art direction and photography in her catalogs is so spot-on that they read like coffee table books and tell a story rather than sell a product. I've been collecting them for years and thought I'd share some of my favorite images with you, as well as a couple from her books. You can also order your own catalog and it will be shipped to you from England for free ;)
